- 4Retail construction company was commissioned to build a 4-storey building for the new offices in Barcelona’s 22@ district.
- The goal of the interior design, by Estudi Francesc Pons, was mainly to encourage teamwork and interaction among the company’s various departments, using spacious, open rooms.
4Retail construction company was commissioned to carry out the building project for the new Barcelona headquarters of marketing, advertising and communication multinational corporation McCann WG. In the 22@ technology district, a four-storey building was constructed with 2,400 square metres.
The interior design studio Estudi Francesc Pons was in charge of the interior design. And 4Retail, for the whole project, from design to execution of the turnkey, closed-budget construction.
Most cutting-edge offices in terms of design
How workspaces are designed has changed very quickly over the past decade. In order to address this trend, the interior design by Estudi Francesc Pons was strategically created to maximise interaction among all employees and encourage creativity, avoiding the compartmentalisation of work areas.
“The new McCann WG headquarters in Barcelona was a very important challenge for the company,” notes Enric Jové, CEO of McCann WG Barcelona. “For the first time, we had to analyse how to implement the company’s headquarters in a building that was all ours, and from scratch, as we couldn’t use anything from before.”
We respected the industrial essence of the building and its environs to highlight the facilities and exposed ceilings. Plus, we made the most of the natural light on each floor to give the shared areas a sense of spaciousness.
From the ground floor, with an entrance from the street, the corporate identity is clear to all, thanks to the enormous neon lights on the wall at the huge reception and the visible recording studio.
The first and second floors have various work areas: meeting rooms, management offices and large workspaces for multidisciplinary teams.
The third floor was designed for teams to have some fun and use their creativity, with games and free-time areas, as well as places for informal meetings and stands for just chatting. There is also a coffee nook and kitchenette.
Work carried out in 3 months with qualitative success
In just 3 months, the 4Retail team and McCann WG executed all the construction, working side by side on all aspects of execution, including finishes, technical needs, layout, ergonomics, traffic and logistics for the move.
Enric Jové, CEO of McCann WG Barcelona, points out: “Choosing the company that would accompany us in designing and building the agency was key, because the project had two strategic challenges: one, to create a unique space in a neighbourhood with many emblematic buildings, and the other, to do so with a very short timeframe for designing and executing the works.” He explains that, with both challenges, “4Retail far surpassed our expectations. The design and interiors were surprising, and the construction phase came in on time and on budget.”
We can confirm that the project was a total success, meeting the established timeline for executing the works and staying within the final budget, with a truly qualitative result.
Javier Paradell, founding partner of 4Retail affirms, “It was very exciting for 4Retail to be able to execute this sort of turnkey project for our client McCann WG and we are extremely satisfied with having met the initial requirements of the project in terms of planning, quality and cost.” He also noted that working on this project was a milestone for the company: “We are very proud that a leading multinational corporation like McCann WG trusted us and made us part of their growth,” he explains.
